Photo Class Portraits

Today was a great learning day! I went to my final class at the Corpus Christi Art Museum. I left all my pretty portraits I had for the class at home by mistake! So I had to listen to the instructor go over everyones pictures except mine. The light came on in my head. Barney had been right. There is no right or wrong way to take pictures. I wanted to lessen wrinkles with light and The instructor liked wrinkles! Go figure. The interesting styles included one student who used venition blinds to make a pattern that was interesting and lessened the light on his portrait of his wife. I also found out that I had the most helpful models of all. One lady had to promise ice cream and one man said his wife got more cooperative with wine! I am going to carry this class and it's lessons with me always. Thanks for listening!

Friday was a great day! I received so much encouragement from my new friend Barney! He coached me on my photography and I am happy with the results! I can see that I need to practice more now. I am taking a photography course at the Corpus Christi Art Museum. The instructor Rueben Njaa assigned five portraits. Men and Women, inside and outside, in black and white. It was very awkward for we to ask people to pose. I usually take pictures as gatherings or weddings. I was afraid no one would want to sit for me. I learned a lot from this exercise by getting people to look different directions and seeing just the effect of light and shadows. and I’m looking forward to the next class to see what others did. Since we were to pay attention to lighting and ways to reflect light. I purchased a white foam board that school children use at science fairs for $8.99 and that worked well. It was amazing the improvements more light in the right places made. I have some other ideas for items that are cheap(my favorite word) and should reflect well and be easy to travel with. We had fun! Thanks everyone!

Seize the Day!

Today was a sweet and sour day. I went to a funeral of a friend's father. He had been sick and out of circulation for a long time. Not a lot of people went to his funeral. I was so glad I went for my friend's sake. She hugged me and acknowledged that we are old friends. I was sad for her and sad for me. My parents are ageing and I hope they have a long time to go. I hope they have lots of people that appreciate that they have always treated people good and followed a high moral road. Life comes to an end and we stand or fall by our efforts to do the right thing. I've heard it compared to the dash between when we were born and died. After the funeral I came back to my office and my friends and live is good. The sun is shining and we are enjoying happy times. We are able to enjoy the coastal climate we inhabit with out a care. I hope the occasional funeral leaves us with thoughts as to how we leave this world hopefully better for our having been here. Here is a picture of Laurence and his friend Steve with last weeks catch.

Laguna Madre Sunrise

Friday on my way to Padre Island I saw such a pretty sunrise! I was able to capture some of the beauty with my Olympus Digital SLR set on RAW. I hope you like this morning nautical view.

This morning was a great day to be out looking for photos. Out on North Padre I found a surprise. A beautiful peacock wandering around.
